Northwest Woods
Wood is a fascinating thing... it is capable of displaying beautiful patterns and colors that constantly surprise me, and it can render and modify tone in the same way. For six years now I have been exploring fallen trees and old lumber, with the purpose of making them into guitars. With the help of other luthiers, especially Tom Ribbecke whose luthier's workshop I attended, and with constant referral to numerous books, I succeeded in completing ten guitars. I worked with primarily local woods, and the guitars are a potpourri of different wood characteristics, as well as different structural designs. All my green wood gets cured in my solar kiln for at least three months, and is thereby dried to less than 8%. The links on this page take you to brief illuminations of my wood collection thus far, the inspiration for my work.
